My story
I hope my story inspires others to keep trying. to achieve the impossible. TO KNOW THERE WILL BE A BETTER DAY.
I have been asked to tell my story and speak about my journey from accident and paralysis to swimming channels. it started with local schools to chat to the kids. Since then I have talked to community and swim groups, spoken at mens mental health gatherings, at businesses and more recently at the screenings of the documentary. Including being asked on stage at the kendal mountain festival, which was a real honour.
I speak in the only way i know how, from the heart and with complete honesty. i am told ALso with humility and humour too! whilst my journey is one of struggle and immense challenge, it is also one of hope, of a desire to survive and thrive. to win my life back and create a new purpose from what felt like a situation i couldn’t even bear to live with.
i talk openly about mental health, something that men simply have to be better at doing. knowing it’s okay to accept the situation, reach out for help and support from friends and family, when needed from professionals.
ultimately, i feel lucky to be alive. to have a story that has trials but plenty of tribulation and success. to have found a new brother and sisterhood through swimming and the challenges I have taken on. I have a new and better life, swimming is now an essential part of what I do and if I can help others then it brings meaning to all I have been through.
pricing - i mostly take on speaking commitments to make a difference and help others. every talk is different. I can tailor content, timing and approach. for schools and charities I try and talk pro bono and include water safety as part of my messaging. I can ALSO arrange a screening of the film as part of an event.
